Sensors and actuators are an essential part of mechatronics. The MRU collaborates extensively with other laboratories, such as Sensors Laboratory and the SAPPZ in this respect.
The MRU has a long history of research in the optoelectronics field. Sensors and measurement systems ranging from wavelengths in the infra red through to X-Rays.
The name ferroelectric is an analogy to ferromagnetic and has nothing to do with iron. Ferroelectric is the name given to the family of materials which are electromechanically active. Examples include piezoelectric, pyroelectric, electrostrictive etc.
The MRU is very active in the use and development of ferroelectric sensors and actuators.
